Prayer For New Friends

Six months ago, I moved to a new city and made some very good friends. In the process of getting to know them, I realized that one commonality among us all was our love for Jesus. Since then, we’ve all gotten together for prayer and fellowship in our homes.

Prayer for New Friends

When you’re looking for ways to make new friends, prayer can be a powerful ally. The Bible tells us that God is always interested in connecting with us, and He can help us find new friends. Here are some prayer tips for finding new friends:

1. Ask God for guidance. “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my thoughts,” declares the Psalmist (Psalm 139:23). When we pray for guidance, we open ourselves up to His wisdom and intuition.

2. Pray for discernment. “Do not be deceived: God cannot be fooled,” warns the apostle Paul (Romans 9:33). We need discernment when meeting new people—not just in choosing friends, but in all areas of our lives.

3. Pray for courage. “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you,” says the apostle Paul (1 Peter 5:7). When we pray for courage, we trust in God’s strength to help us face challenges head-on.

4. Pray for wisdom. “In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths,” declares the prophet Proverbs 3:5.

Prayer for new friends

When we pray for friends, we often include requests for guidance, protection and wisdom. Here are seven prayers specifically for those seeking new friends:

1. Grant me the wisdom to be a true friend to others.
2. Protect me from making hurtful or harmful decisions towards those I meet.
3. Give me the courage to be vulnerable and open with new friends.
4. Enable me to see the best in people and to give them the benefit of the doubt.
5. Guide me in how I should act and speak in order to create a warm and welcoming environment for my new friends.
6. Fill me with the desire to learn more about your friends and their backgrounds, so that I can better understand them.
7. Grant me patience and understanding as I navigate this new phase of my life, surrounded by new friends.”
