Invocation Prayer For Inauguration
As President Inauguration begins, here is a prayer that can be used during this time.
Almighty God, Who has given us this good land for our heritage;
Almighty God, Who has given us this good land for our heritage;
We humbly beseech Thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of Thy favor and glad to do Thy will. Bless our land with honor and virtue; grant true liberty without license, self-government without anarchy, justice without oppression; make us a blessing to the nations that rejoice in our goodness.
Thy kingdom come! Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven. -Amen
We humbly beseech Thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of Thy favor and glad to do Thy will.
We humbly beseech Thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of Thy favor and glad to do Thy will. Bless our President and Vice President, the Congress, and all civil magistrates. Give them persevering love for the right, courage to do what is just, firmness to correct mistakes when made; and grant us all grace to contribute our share in the work of our country’s progress toward peace, liberty and justice for all.
Bless those who are about to lead us into the new administration; that with their associates they may be faithful at all times in public trust; that they may conduct our nation safely through these present perils; that they may guide us in building up an enduring structure of society on every foundation laid by liberty; justice and love; in building up a more perfect union wherein every man will enjoy his own rights without encroaching upon another’s privileges or prosperity.
This we ask because His ways are ways of pleasantness, And all His paths rejoice.
Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners.
Almighty God, we pray for the well-being of our nation. Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners.
Grant us wisdom to discover the hidden facts that are essential to the strength of a nation; give us courage to face those facts when discovered; give us grace enough to conquer self-interest and prejudice as we seek new solutions for old problems.
Forgive our mistakes; strengthen our faith; renew our hope in an ever better future for ourselves and all mankind.
Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way.
- Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way.
- Help us to work together for the common good. Heal the wounds of our divided nation—heal them with your grace so that we may become one people working toward a better world for all people.
- And guide us as we move forward as one people united in purpose and spirit. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen!
Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitude brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues.
Inauguration Day is a time for great celebration. Our nation’s leaders are being sworn in and we can all take pride in our country. However, the inauguration ceremony also reminds us of our responsibilities as citizens to defend our liberties and fashion into one united people the multitude brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues.
This phrase is taken from a letter written by George Washington upon his inauguration as President on April 30th 1789:
“I have often reflected how very strange it must seem to foreigners, who may be inclined to judge of the situation of America by what they hear; that this great country should be subject to such an insignificant person as myself.”
Endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in Thy Name we entrust the authority of government that there may be justice and peace at home,
- endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in Thy Name we entrust the authority of government that there may be justice and peace at home,
- establish Thy rule over our lives in accordance with Thy will.
And that through obedience to Thy law, we may show forth Thy praise among the nations of the earth.
And that through obedience to Thy law, we may show forth Thy praise among the nations of the earth.
The only way to show God’s praise among the nations of the earth is to obey His law as it has been revealed in Scripture. The nation that will be most successful in that respect is one which has a government founded on biblical principles and guided by Christian principles.
In time of prosperity fill our hearts with thankfulness;
In time of prosperity fill our hearts with thankfulness;
In the day of trouble to keep us patient and resigned.
Help us, we beseech Thee, O Lord God, that this day we may be free from sin and made worthy to serve Thee the rest of our lives in truth and holiness. We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen!
And in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in Thee to fail; all which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
- May we be grateful for all the blessings that come to us from God, and may we trust in Him, even in times of trouble.
- We also ask you to help us remember that when we are tempted with pride or selfishness, it is always because we doubt your love for us.
- In all things, let us be mindful of Your will for our lives and those around us. Help us not to let our faith fail but rather grow stronger through trials and adversity, so that when these pass away into memory only they shall leave behind peace and joy in their wake. Amen.*
A prayer for inauguration
May the Lord bless you and keep you;
May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you;
May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.
