Daily Prayer For The Day
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul. He leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. And though I walk through the valley of death, I will fear no evil: for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23
Most merciful God,
Our God is the most merciful of all, and He is forgiving. He is compassionate, loving and just; yet He is all-powerful, all-knowing and above all things. The Creator of Heaven and Earth has spoken to us through His word—the Bible—and we should abide by what it says.
We should pray for forgiveness for our sins because Jesus has already paid for them on the cross with His own blood (1 Peter 2:24). We can know that we are saved from our sins if we truly believe this truth in our hearts (Romans 10:9).
Our Lord Jesus died on a cross so that we would not have to suffer everlasting torment in hell forever as punishment for our sins (2 Corinthians 5:21). If you have accepted Christ into your life then please make sure to read through the verses below every day until they become part of who you are as well!
Have mercy on me, a sinner,
Have mercy on me, a sinner.
In the name of Jesus Christ, who said that He came to fulfill the law (Matthew 5:17-18) and that “the letter kills but the Spirit gives life” (2 Corinthians 3:6). I ask for God’s mercy on me because I know that without it there is no hope for me or any other sinner.
Your mercy is everlasting, O Lord; do not abandon us forever! For Your great kindness is better than life itself; my lips shall praise You! (Psalm 63:1-3)
Give us grace to be totally renewed in You by our faith in Jesus Christ so that we may grow up into Him in all things as members of His body which is the Church (Ephesians 4:15-16).
and according to the greatness of your compassion.
Compassion is a virtue to be cultivated, because it is a human quality that allows us to understand and empathize with the pain of others. Compassion is a feeling, but it’s also an action—a response to suffering in our lives and the lives of others. It’s also a way of thinking: when we consider our own experiences and those of others, we can think compassionately about them as well—not just feel it. And although compassion can be limited by our physical abilities (we may not be able to help everyone), it’s still an essential part of life for all people on Earth—and even beyond! As such, when we have time in your daily prayer practice today, ask yourself: “How can I show more compassion?”
blot out my transgressions.
Blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. Against you only have I sinned, and done what is evil in your sight; that you may be justified when you speak, and be clear when you judge.
Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence nor take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation; establish me with your governing Spirit; do not cast me away from among those whom you have redeemed through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God now and for ever.—Amen!
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
Amend my ways; restore to me the joy of your salvation, so that I may be able to answer anyone who taunts me, for I bear on my body the scars of Jesus’ wounds, signs of a deeper sorrow than any man has known before or since his death: scourged by people who did not know what they were doing; nailed to a cross between two thieves and left to die there by people who had hated him all their lives, who did not understand why he came into this world at all or why he had come back again after death; mocked by those around them as they watched him die because they did not realize that his suffering was also theirs — how much more could we suffer without Christ than without him!
For I know my transgressions and my sin is ever before me.
Dear God,
I am a sinner and I want to be free from my sins. Please forgive me for all of the times that I have sinned against You and others since last night. I know that you love me and will forgive me when I ask for it. Forgive me for any pride that may be in my heart, or any selfishness or anger at another person. Please help me to see myself as you see me—a broken person who needs your grace and mercy every day! In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Against you only have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight.
When you pray, God is listening. He wants to hear from you and he wants to help you. He knows that sometimes we make mistakes and we lose our way, but if we trust in him and ask for forgiveness, he will forgive us for what we have done wrong. We can ask him to help us change so that we do not sin again, because sin separates us from God’s love (James 4:1-3).
Create in me a clean heart, O God and renew a right spirit within me.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of thy salvation and uphold me by thy generous Spirit. I have sinned against you and have done wickedly; I do not keep back any of my sins but confess them all before you; for I am afraid that if I deny them, you will cast me out of your sight. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and uphold me by your generous spirit.”
Cast me not away from your presence and take not your holy Spirit from me.
Today, pray for the many people who are struggling with the loss of a loved one. Pray that God will comfort them and help them find peace.
Pray also for all those who are struggling with mental illness or addiction. May God’s Spirit fill them with hope and strength as they work toward healing—both on their own and in community with others who care about them.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me.
Dear Lord,
Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me.
The joy you have given me is not my own; it is a gift from you. You have given it through the Holy Spirit, who lives in me and gives life to every part of my being: body, mind, emotions and spirit. This life of God in me is also known as “Christ within” or “the indwelling presence or power of Christ.”
It is this gift that I need today—this spirit of love that makes us whole and heals us when we are broken by sin or wounded by others’ actions against us. Please fill my cup daily with this precious substance!
Have mercy on all who are struggling today
Pray for all those who are struggling today. Pray for those who are dealing with illness, addiction, depression and grief. Pray for peace and comfort in their lives.
Let us remember those who are struggling today, and pray for them. Let us also pray for ourselves, so that we may turn from our sins and seek God’s forgiveness.
