When you’re undergoing open heart surgery, there are certain things that you need to know in order to make the experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible for yourself. In this prayer for open heart surgery, we ask for strength, patience, and guidance in order to overcome any challenges that might arise during the surgery.
The Purpose of Prayer
When you go into surgery, there is a very real possibility that you may not come out the other side alive. It is for this reason that people throughout history have prayed for those who are going under the knife. Prayer can be an incredibly powerful tool in helping to prepare for an event like this and can help to ease the mind of the patient and their loved ones.
There are many different types of prayer that can be used before, during, and after surgery. Before surgery, people often pray for healing and strength. During surgery, people often pray for God to direct their actions and help them to make quick and successful repairs. After surgery, people often pray for the patient’s recovery and well-being.
Whatever type of prayer you choose, make sure to take time to connect with God on a personal level. He is waiting to hear from you and will likely be very supportive during your time in the hospital.
How to Pray for Surgery

4. Thank God for giving you this opportunity to have surgery and for the mercy He has shown you so far.
5. Ask Him to help you through the surgery and recovery process, and to give you a new heart that is full of love.
6. Finally, ask Him to forgive any sins that may be hindering your healing process.
7. Close your prayer with a request for His guidance in the days ahead.
During Surgery:
1.Remind yourself that this is a journey, not a destination- everything will be okay in the end!

After the Surgery
When I woke up from my surgery, I had no idea what to expect. I was so overwhelmed with gratitude for the amazing team of doctors and nurses who had taken care of me. From the moment I woke up, everyone was so kind and attentive.
I was shocked at how quickly I recovered. The pain medication they put in my IV made me very sleepy, but I barely needed any other pain relief. Within a few days, I was able to get out of bed and begin to take some basic steps.
Now, six weeks after surgery, I’m feeling great! My incision is slowly healing and my stitches are coming out. Despite the fact that there’s still a bit of swelling around my sternum, I can honestly say that the experience has been overwhelmingly positive.
I know that there will be times when my recovery won’t go as smoothly as it has so far, but I’m grateful for every step along the way. Thank you for all your prayers for me—they’re helping me to heal quickly and feel even better soon!
