Jesus’ Prayer For His Disciples

Jesus’ Prayer For His Disciples

Jesus’ prayer for his disciples is a powerful reminder that God’s love can shine through us.

Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.

“Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.”

“I have loved them as you have loved me.”

“And now, Father, glorify me with yourself with the glory that I had in your presence before the world existed.”

For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him.

As you pray this prayer, imagine that you are Jesus. Think about what he would want for us and how he would feel as he prays these words.

Enter into his heart. Feel the weight of all that is on his mind and in his heart as he looks at each person gathered around him. As he begins to speak, sense the love that wells up inside him for you, each person gathered there with him—each person whom God has given him authority over so that they may know eternal life.

Now take those words and make them your own: For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him…

Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

This verse teaches us that knowing God is eternal life. But what does it mean to know God? It means being with God in heaven and seeing Him face-to-face for all eternity. Knowing Jesus means knowing His love for us; knowing His sacrifice on the cross; and experiencing His victory over sin and death through His resurrection from the dead. And since Jesus is Himself the Son of God (John 20:28), to know Him is also to know His Father in heaven—to experience divine love in a way we can’t even begin to comprehend on our own power or merit.

I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.

Jesus prayed for unity among his disciples, but he also prayed for their continued faith in him and his mission. He wanted them to know that the work he had done on earth was good and beautiful. It was eternal and glorious—and it pleased God.

And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.

As you can see, Jesus is the Son of God. He was with God before the world began. He is the Word of God, and he came from heaven to become human and save us. Jesus died on a cross so that we could be forgiven by our sins and be saved.

Jesus is also called “the Lamb of God” in this prayer because he died for our sins so that we could have eternal life (John 1:29).

Jesus is called “the Alpha and Omega” because his name means “first” or “beginning” in Greek; therefore, he represents what everything else depends on (John 1:1-3). Finally, Jesus is called “Light of the World” because he gives us hope in this dark world full of evil things like war, murder, racism/prejudice…and many other bad things!

I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”

Jesus’ prayer for His disciples is, “I pray that they may be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me” (John 17:23).

The importance of God’s love being in us is emphasized here because without it, we cannot love Him or others. Jesus said, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him and we will come to him and make our home with him” (John 14:23).

God’s love can shine through us

God’s love is unconditional. It does not depend on a person’s character or behavior, but on God’s nature, who loves us as he created us to be loved.

God’s love is never ending. He continues to pour out his mercy on those who turn away from him in order to show them the way back home.

God’s love is eternal. It has no beginning and no end because it comes from him who has always existed and will always exist (Psalm 90:2). The Bible says that “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

God’s love is powerful—it can heal broken hearts and mended relationships; it can replace fear with hope; it can even bring life where there was only death! When Jesus told Peter to “feed my sheep” he promised him that if he did so then “when you are old you will stretch out your hands…and another will dress you and carry you where [you] do not wish to go.” To me this means that when I choose what pleases God rather than myself then I have given up control over my life…to Him!

Jesus’ prayer for his disciples was that God would glorify them, and that they would glorify Him. This is God’s love shining through us. In the end, we can only do what God wants us to do when we have faith in him.
