Thanksgiving Prayer For Priests
We have been blessed with good priests. They perform sacraments, administer to our needs, and serve as spiritual fathers and brothers. We can’t thank them enough for all they do!
All: We thank you, Lord, for the gift of our priests.
All: We thank you, Lord, for the gift of our priests.
We thank you for the gift of our parish priest.
And we thank you for the gift of our diocesan priest who serves us as an emissary and minister of your Church. May he be a living example of your love and mercy in this community as he celebrates with them at Mass today.
Each autumn, we set aside a day to reflect on the blessings we have received.
Each autumn, we set aside a day to reflect on the blessings we have received. The tradition of Thanksgiving has been around for centuries, and it is a time when we give thanks for all that God has given us.
We remember our ancestors who first arrived on these shores and felt gratitude for their courage in leaving everything behind to seek a better life in this country. We remember those who fought so valiantly to protect our freedom, especially those who gave their lives so that we may enjoy ours today. Finally, we remember God’s gracious gift of salvation through Jesus Christ and pray that He would continue to bless us with His goodness throughout the coming year.
We often forget that Thanksgiving is not just an American holiday, but a time honored tradition of gratitude in any nation.
We often forget that Thanksgiving is not just an American holiday, but a time honored tradition of gratitude in any nation. The word “thanks” is derived from the Anglo-Saxon word “thanc” which means to thank.
It is also important to remember that we are all imperfect creatures who are prone to sin and error. This can make us feel unworthy of God’s love and forgiveness, but He reaches out anyway with His mercy and grace in order to embrace us fully into His family once again (John 1:12).
Let us take this time to express our thanks to God for the blessing he has given us through our priests.
We should take this time to express our thanks to God for the blessing he has given us through our priests.
We are thankful for their sacrifice, as they dedicate their lives to serving God and us.
We are thankful that they lead us in prayer and teach us about God’s Word.
We are thankful that they provide spiritual guidance and comfort during times of sorrow or hardship in our lives or the lives of others around us.
For all that they do for us and for the Church, let us lift up to God a prayer of gratitude.
Lord, we ask for a special blessing on the priests of our community, of our diocese and of our country. May they be encouraged by your presence and strengthened in their mission to proclaim your word. Grant them wisdom and courage as they respond to the needs of their people at home or abroad. Bless those who minister in times of crisis or trial, who care for the sick or dying and those who bring comfort to those suffering from emotional or mental illness.
We pray that all priests will be faithful in carrying out their ministry through prayerful listening to God’s Word, loving service of others and selfless dedication to building up Christ’s Church. Remember especially those priests who are struggling with difficulties such as loneliness or discouragement; may you give them strength so that they might continue serving you faithfully until death comes when it must come – Amen!
First Priest: For our parish priest who blesses and leads in prayer, thanks be to you, Lord!

Second Priest: For the bishop who guides the Church in faith and hope, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Second Priest: For the pope who prays for all of us as head of your Church on earth.
All: Thanks be to God!
It is good that you have been called to this holy ministry. It is a great privilege, and it should be accepted humbly, gratefully and joyfully. In the words of Pope Paul VI: “There is no more noble or beautiful task than to devote oneself to being a priest.”
Please remember that you are not alone in this. There are many people who pray for you and support you in your priesthood as they themselves strive to live out their own vocations more fully. We are all on the same journey—the path toward holiness—and we will all arrive at our goal if we persevere along it together with courage, confidence and hope (CCC 2826).
Conclusion
We say it every day, but today is a special day. It’s time to give thanks for all that God has given us. May we remember that our priests are an important part of this list and pray for them on this day so they can continue their good work in the Church.
