Prayer For Depression Healing

Prayer For Depression Healing

Depression is an illness that affects millions of people across the world. It can be debilitating and painful, but it doesn’t have to be. Depression is a disease of the mind and body, which can be treated by medication or therapy. In addition to these treatments, prayer also plays a role in healing from depression. I’m going to share some examples of how prayer can help heal depression with you today!

Healing Prayer for Depression

Healing Prayer for Depression:

  • You are loved by God. His love is deep and wide, encompassing all of you in every moment. The pain you feel is real, but it’s not who you are. The darkness that has surrounded your life has been a mask over your true identity—a light that shines brightly from within when the darkness is removed. In this moment, welcome that light back into your heart. It belongs there; it’s part of who you really are. Let go of any fear or doubt about yourself or your worthiness to receive this light; let go of any doubt about God’s love for you and the desire within him to see his children healed and whole again (Jeremiah 29:11). Receive these gifts with an open heart today as they come through me into yours—no strings attached!

Lord, I come to You today with a heavy heart. My depression has grown heavier, and I can’t do this on my own anymore. I need Your help.

If you’re reading this, chances are you’re either a Christian who struggles with depression or the friend or family member of someone who does. I’m writing to both groups, because I know how isolating depression can be—and how much more difficult it is when we feel like no one else understands.

Depression is not a sin. It’s a disease that affects your brain chemistry and causes feelings of hopelessness, sadness, despair and loneliness. It’s not something to be ashamed of; it’s something real people suffer from every day—you’re not alone! That said…

Depression isn’t just made up in your head: there are medical treatments available for those who need them (see “Getting Help” below). And while medication will only treat symptoms rather than cure anything permanent, it can help relieve many common symptoms like anxiety and insomnia so that you’ll find it easier to cope with problems on your own terms rather than letting them take control over you.

Father, I know that You don’t want me to suffer like this. Depression is stealing so much from me, and I’ve had enough. Help me, Lord!

Dear Father,

I know that You don’t want me to suffer like this. Depression is stealing so much from me, and I’ve had enough. Help me, Lord!

Depression is a real problem that everyone should be aware of, because it’s not something you should suffer in silence. Depression can literally feel like you’re fighting for your life—and the stakes are high: if you don’t get help (or if the medication doesn’t work), depression can lead to suicide or death by other means (such as drug overdose).

But there is hope! Jesus wants us all to have peace in our hearts and joy throughout our lives (Psalm 34:18). And He offers healing through prayer and His Word; but some people need more than just spiritual guidance—they also need medical treatment. If someone close to you has been diagnosed with depression or anxiety disorder and they seem reluctant to seek out professional help, encourage them gently but firmly with these words: “You deserve better than this.”

Jesus, only You can give me the hope and peace I so desperately need right now. Give me what only You can give, Lord.

Jesus, only You can give me the hope and peace I so desperately need right now. Give me what only You can give, Lord.

I know that if I don’t change my thinking, things will never get better for me. Help me to remember that Your thoughts about my life are always good and true, no matter how bleak things may seem in my mind at this moment!

I ask You to help restore my faith in myself as a person who has worth and value – no matter what is going on around me or within me at any given time! In Jesus’ Name I pray, amen!”

Holy Spirit, show me where my focus has been misplaced and help me refocus on You and what really matters. Thank You for reminding me of Your love.

  • Focus on God’s Love:

The first step for me in getting out of the pit of depression was focusing on the love that God has for me. He loves me unconditionally, and I could never do enough bad things to make Him stop loving me. His love is perfect! It is always there, even when I choose not to believe in it or acknowledge it.

  • Focus on God’s Promises:

God promises to be with us every day and through all circumstances (Deuteronomy 31:8). He also promises us joy (John 14:27), peace (Philippians 4:7), and faithfulness (Hebrews 13:5). When things don’t go our way we can remember these promises knowing that sometimes pain comes with growth and healing sometimes takes time but we are never abandoned by our heavenly Father!

Lord, there are so many things in this world to be thankful for. Remind me of the good things in my life that depression has made me unable to see.

  • Lord, there are so many things in this world to be thankful for. Remind me of the good things in my life that depression has made me unable to see.
  • Take time each day to focus on the things that you have, rather than those you do not have.
  • Be grateful for what is happening around you, and for who is in your life right now. You may feel as though everything is going wrong or does not go your way, but know that God has a plan for each one of us and is always with us through our struggles and hardships!

Lord, help those around me understand my struggle with depression better so that they can be more supportive of my needs during this time.

  • Depression is a mental illness that causes a person to feel sad, hopeless, or empty.
  • You can help your friend with depression by being supportive and understanding.
  • If your friend is having trouble getting out of bed in the morning, offer to go for a walk or run together.
  • If your friend’s mood is really low, listen and be there for him or her when possible.

Some prayers start with heavy hearts but end with hope

Prayer is a way to express our needs, ask for help and thank God for what He has done. Prayers can also be used to praise God for what He has done.

Why do we pray?

  • To express our needs.
  • To seek guidance.
  • To receive help in times of difficulty or need by asking God’s intervention in those situations of life where we feel overwhelmed by circumstances beyond our control or incapable of coping on our own strength alone.(Matthew 7:7-8) (Romans 8:26-27) (1 John 5:14-15).

I know that this prayer for healing is only a start. It’s not a cure-all, but it’s a way to start the conversation about what we can do as individuals and as communities to help those who suffer from depression. I hope you’ll share these words with whoever needs them most in your life.
