Saint Gertrude Prayer For The Souls In Purgatory
O Lord Jesus Christ, who through the bloody sweat which Thou didst suffer in the Garden of Gethsemane hast vouchsafed to come again into the world to save it, we beseech Thee that Thou wouldst deign once more to visit these souls in purgatory and release them from their pains. By Thy most bitter Passion and death on the Cross hast Thou redeemed us; by Thy Resurrection hast Thou restored us to life eternal; by sending down the Holy Ghost upon us hast Thou bestowed upon us Thy sevenfold gifts in one Holy Sacrament; O most sweet Jesus, through all these great benefits which Thou hast bestowed upon mankind out of Thy love for them and by virtue of Thy infinite power over all things visible and invisible, vouchsafe also now through this prayer of ours to liberate from their torments those who are detained there only because they were not sufficiently cleansed when they left this life. We know not how much they have suffered during their long exile therein nor what further suffering remains for them still on earth before they can enter into heaven at last; but we do know that if You were willing to take pity on them today You could bring about their release forthwith. Therefore we pray Thee mercifully through Thine infinite love for mankind: have mercy on these souls!
O most sweet Jesus, through the bloody sweat which Thou didst suffer in the Garden of Gethsemane, have mercy on these Blessed Souls.
O most sweet Jesus, through the bloody sweat which Thou didst suffer in the Garden of Gethsemane, have mercy on these Blessed Souls. Amen.
Have mercy on them.
You can pray to Saint Gertrude asking her to pray for the souls in Purgatory. You can also ask her to intercede with God, Jesus Christ and Mary for their prayers.
Have mercy on them, O Lord; have mercy on them, O Jesus; have mercy on them, O Lord Jesus Christ; have mercy on them!
R. Have mercy on them, O Lord.
O Lord, in your mercy have pity on the souls in Purgatory. May they feel the warmth of your love which is poured out upon them through the prayers of Saint Gertrude. Send forth that Fire which shall consume all their sins and burn up even the roots of evil. They are already cleansed by their suffering and now they need to be freed from all stain so that they may come forth from the prison of pain and sorrow into your presence where nothing can hinder them from loving you perfectly for all eternity.
- Have mercy on them O Lord;
- For yours is the power,
- And yours is the glory forever and ever!
O most sweet Jesus, through the pains which Thou didst suffer during Thy most cruel scourging, have mercy on them.
O most sweet Jesus, through the pains which Thou didst suffer during Thy most cruel scourging, have mercy on them.
The scourging of Jesus was a punishment given to Him by Pilate for the sins of the people. It was one of many punishments that He suffered for us during His Passion and Death on the Cross.
O most sweet Jesus, through the pains which Thou didst suffer in Thy most painful crowning with thorns, have mercy on them.
O most sweet Jesus, through the pains which Thou didst suffer in Thy most painful crowning with thorns, have mercy on them.
O most sweet Jesus, through the pains which Thou didst suffer in Thy most painful scourging, have mercy on them.
O most sweet Jesus, through the pains which Thou didst suffer in being stripped of Thy garments, have mercy on them.
O most sweet Jesus, through the pains which Thou didst suffer when they put a crown of thorns upon Thy head and made Thee sit upon a high throne as if Thou wert a king and then struck Thee in the face with their hands and spat defiling spittle into Thine eyes; have mercy on them.
O most sweet Jesus, through the pains which Thou didst suffer when they wrapped sharp thorns about Thine head until it bled terribly; have mercy on them.
O most sweet Jesus, through the pains which Thou didst suffer in carrying Thy cross to Calvary, have mercy on them.
O most sweet Jesus, through the pains which Thou didst suffer in carrying Thy cross to Calvary, have mercy on them.
When Thou wast fastened to the cross with malefactors, that they might be a lesson to those who should commit similar crimes; hear us.
When Thou didst hang upon the cross in great agony, and all nature was convulsed at Thy suffering; have pity on them.
St Gertrude!
O Blessed Saint Gertrude, you were a shining example of obedience to God and the Church. You also frequently prayed for the Holy Souls in Purgatory, which is why we ask your intercession on behalf of those souls today.
We pray that your special patronage will help us to live as holy persons, so that we may be most like Jesus Christ; and grant us the grace of final perseverance.
Conclusion
St Gertrude! St Gertrude!
