Prayer For Failing Marriage
Marriage isn’t easy. It’s a lifelong commitment, and it requires hard work and dedication. When our spouses don’t live up to their end of the bargain, we can feel hurt and betrayed. But through every obstacle comes an opportunity for growth. It might be tempting to wish away your spouse’s shortcomings or even divorce him/her out of frustration. But when you pray for a failing marriage, you give both yourself and your spouse time to reflect on what went wrong—and what can be done differently in the future!
A prayer for failing marriage
When you are struggling with marital issues, it can be difficult to find the right words to pray. This prayer for failing marriage will help you focus on what matters most in a marriage: God and your spouse.
Praying for Your Spouse
- Thank God for bringing your spouse into your life and ask Him to keep him or her safe while they are away from you.
- Ask God to give both of you strength during this time apart, so that neither one of you will grow weary of waiting on the Lord (Romans 12:12).
- Pray that God would grant your spouse peace, comfort and strength as he or she deals with whatever trials he or she is facing at work or home (Philippians 4:6-7).
God please hear my prayer for a failing marriage.
God will hear your prayers. God is listening to you right now, even if it feels like he isn’t. He cares about your marriage and he wants to help you through this difficult time.
You are not alone in this struggle—we all go through seasons of trial and difficulty, but we can also be assured that God is there with us through every step of our journey. Remember that no matter what happens or how things end up, you will still be loved by God and find peace in his presence (Psalm 23:4).
You know our problems and how desperately we need your help.
You know our problems and how desperately we need your help. We trust in you to meet our needs, even when it seems hopeless. You are the only one who can give us strength, peace, and help.
I ask you to speak to my spouse and show him/her Your unfailing love.
I pray that you will speak to my spouse and show him/her Your unfailing love. I ask You to give me strength during this time, so that I might be a good example of your love. Please help us move forward in peace as we face the difficulties ahead.
Give my spouse the desire to spend time with me and to communicate with me honestly.
Pray that your spouse will come to you with their feelings and ideas, even when they are tired or busy. Pray that the two of you will be able to communicate honestly and openly with each other, even if it is difficult sometimes.
Praying this prayer can help you learn how to talk about things in a way that makes sense to your partner instead of just saying what’s on your mind without thinking about how it will affect them (and vice versa).
Lord open his/her eyes so that he/she can see the signs of Your mercy and grace in our lives.
God is always with you, and He will give you the strength to overcome this. He will help you find a solution to your problem.
Remember that God loves and cares for all of His children, including those who have failed in their marriages. The Lord has not abandoned us; rather, He is working in our lives even as we experience difficulty or pain. Remembering these truths can give us hope during difficult times such as these.
Allow my spouse to realize that it is only by Your power that he/she can overcome his/her difficulties.
Praise God that you have a spouse who is willing to do this with you. Pray that your husband or wife will realize that it is only by Your power that he/she can overcome his/her difficulties. The Word of God tells us, “Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved.” (Jeremiah 17:14)
Ask God to change the heart of your spouse so they can become the person they were meant to be. Ask Him to heal any bitterness, anger or resentment in your marriage so you and your spouse can get along better than ever before! Pray for His healing touch over every aspect of your life—your job, finances and family relationships—and ask Him to give you strength each day as well as wisdom for making important decisions in life.
Give my spouse a generous spirit, one that recognizes the needs of others and helps them readily.
In addition to the spirit of gratitude, you need to have a generous spirit. Your spouse is not just a sounding board or punching bag. They also have needs and desires, and you should be willing to help them when they need it. A generous spirit recognizes that what’s good for others can be good for us as well. If your spouse needs some time alone or away from home to recharge their batteries, then give them space and support them in making that happen. Recognize that your spouse may have different gifts and strengths than you do; encourage him/her to explore those areas so that he/she can contribute more fully at home and in church life (and beyond).
Don’t be afraid of asking for help from other people—and don’t think that doing so means admitting defeat or weakness! God has provided many resources through his body; it would be foolish not use them!
God, bless my spouse with a level head so that he/she can make good decisions in life, decisions that will bring honor and glory to You.

As a couple, we are called to live according to Your standards of righteousness. This means making wise choices about our finances, spending time together as a family and pursuing Christ-centered activities together. As Christians living out our faith in this way, it is crucial for each partner to have a clear understanding of their own commitment to God’s Word so that they may give one another support during the difficult times ahead. We also need an understanding of each person’s character traits and preferences—what makes them tick? What are their weaknesses? How do these strengths/weaknesses affect our relationships at home? While no marriage is perfect (and neither am I), I pray that this prayer will help me grow closer with my husband as we seek God together through faithfulness in following His Word daily.
Help my spouse understand that no matter what happens, You are our strength and we can trust in You completely.
God is our strength and we can trust in Him completely, no matter what happens.
Even when things are difficult.
Even when we feel like we are alone.
Even when we feel like we are not worthy of His love.
Even when others may not understand us or agree with us, remember that God knows everything about your situation and will take care of it all if you let Him into your heart and mind at this time of need.
